Bridgil

Twenty minutes of math a day that fills in the gaps, for New York students in grade 7 who are behind, with a parent in the loop.

Bridgil is in an early pilot with a small number of families.

Who it's for

Grade 7 students in New York who scored below proficient on the state math test. Most of them are not stuck on grade 7 ideas. They are missing earlier skills, like regrouping, fractions or decimals, that grade 7 work is built on. Bridgil finds those gaps and works on them, while also practicing the kind of questions the grade 7 test asks.

How a day works

A short starting check (about 25 minutes, once) decides where to begin. After that, every day is the same 20 minutes:

  1. 2 minutes: “Remember this one?”A question on a skill from an earlier day, with no hints, to check it stuck.
  2. 8 minutes: catch-upA worked example, one step at a time with a picture, then practice. Hints are there at first and fade away.
  3. 10 minutes: grade 7 test practiceQuestions in the style of the computer-based state test, with an on-screen calculator and reference sheet.

After each practice answer, your child sees whether it was right, the right answer, and a short tip about the likely mistake. The session stops at 20 minutes, even on a hard day.

What a lesson looks like

382345Least at the top, greatest at the bottom
From the catch-up lesson “Comparing fractions with different denominators”: the fractions are drawn as bars of the same length, so it is easy to see which is bigger. Every diagram is drawn from the numbers in the example.

What you see as a parent

  • Each school day marked as on track, missed, or stuck. Weekends are optional.
  • “Stuck” means a skill was missed three checks in a row. That is your cue to spend 15 minutes on it together.
  • A skill map: what has been mastered, what is being learned, and what comes next.

Answers checked by code, twice

Every question is built from a template, and its answer is worked out by two separate programs that must agree before a student ever sees it. No AI writes questions, answers or explanations.
